Led by our experienced faculty,  students study theories of advanced nursing practice and learn to make independent clinical judgments. Courses cover theoretical basis for advanced nursing practice, along with clinical pharmacology, advanced health assessment and clinical decision making, major forces in health care and advanced practice role enactment.

During the program, students engage in three immersions that offer valuable experiences and knowledge. The first immersion serves as an orientation, introducing them to peers, faculty, and essential program and university aspects. The second immersion, two years in, provides simulated training in advanced clinical skills, including physical exams, suturing, and biopsies. The third immersion, in the third year, features guest lectures by field experts and hands-on activities such as suturing and nerve blocks. These immersions enhance practical skills and broaden students' understanding.

Students also learn about the peer review process, client advocacy, role negotiation and how to develop collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships. In their clinical instruction, our NP faculty model collaborative behaviors, showing students the complementary roles of the advanced practice nurse and the physician firsthand. They also demonstrate the nurse practitioner’s unique contributions to patient care.
