Seton Hall University College of Nursing and the City of Newark’s Nurse-led Mobile Health Training Project

Students completing clinical experiential training on the mobile health unit are eligible for a $10,000 stipend to defray educational costs!

The nurse-led Mobile Health Training Project (MHTP) will create a pipeline of nurse practitioners (NPs) for Newark, N.J., and build a foundation for a long-term academic and community partnership between Seton Hall University College of Nursing and the Newark Department of Health and Community Wellness' co-affiliated federally qualified health center, the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center, to provide NP students with experiential training on three mobile health units.

The Experiential Clinical Training is a unique, community-based clinical training experience on nurse-led mobile health units for Newark’s medically underserved populations. Utilizing innovative technology to improve health access, students will identify and implement evidence-based practices in medically underserved areas that nurtures culturally aligned leadership, communication and critical-thinking skills in a team-based interprofessional work environment. The experiential clinical training and didactic curricula will increase NP students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes on social determinants of health, diversity, equity, inclusion and health-equity concepts and increase NP students’ confidence and knowledge in working with underserved communities.

Students in Seton Hall's Adult-Gerontology Primary Care, Pediatric Primary Care or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner programs assigned to mobile health units will complete 120-160 hours of community-based experiential training* with well-trained, culturally responsible faculty and preceptors.  At the successful conclusion of the training, students will be eligible for a $10,000 stipend.
