Living, Sharing and Deepening Catholic Identity at Seton Hall
Explore the Center
The Center for Catholic Studies is dedicated to fostering an ongoing dialogue between the Catholic intellectual tradition and all areas of study and contemporary culture. In the spirit of the Catholic Church's legacy of bringing forth things "new and old," the Center's three Institutes, scholarly research, publications, and programming serve to generate new initiatives and facilitate conversation and collaboration among faculty, administrators, students, and the general public.
The primary function of the Center is to support the Catholic mission of Seton Hall in creative ways, endeavoring to be an incubator for innovative initiatives in promoting Catholic identity across the university. It fulfills this role for diverse demographics within the university in five principal areas: Faculty Development, Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Intellectual Life, Student Engagement, and Ongoing Innovation.
Our Institutes
The Center maintains a global focus in international scholarship and is the home of
the Bernard J. Lonergan Institute, the G.K. Chesterton Institute for Faith & Culture and
the Micah Institute for Business and Economics. The Institutes offer opportunities
for study and research, as well as ongoing programs related to faith and culture.
The Center publishes two peer-reviewed journals, The Chesterton Review and The Lonergan Review, as well as the student journal Arcadia. Read more about our Institutes »
Toth-Lonergan Endowed Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies
The Toth-Lonergan Chair was founded and endowed in honor of Seton Hall Professor Deacon Bill Toth and the great Catholic philosopher and theologian, Bernard Lonergan, SJ. The Chair represents a sustained commitment to interdisciplinary dialogue between Seton Hall’s Catholic identity and all the disciplines and professions in the university. The holder of the Toth-Lonergan Chair works with students and faculty in various schools and departments to foster and deepen conversation on the relationship with the Catholic mission.
