Secondary and Special Education
The Secondary Education Program at Seton Hall University is a unique and dynamic education preparation program that prepares educators who practice culturally relevant teaching and are committed to social justice. The Secondary Education Program offers an academically rigorous curriculum that prepares future educators to serve students of all backgrounds, with a particular focus on urban communities, through community and school partnerships. Our focus on justice is deeply intertwined with Seton Hall’s mission to prepare students to be leaders in their professional and community lives in a global society. In content-rich, research-based, and technology-infused courses, secondary education candidates engage in collaborative learning as they learn to translate theory to practice.
Program
The B.S.E. in Secondary Education is a four-year undergraduate program with a minimum of 120 credits required for graduation. Students gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions in preparation for dual licensure in an instructional area and special education. Candidates earn two certifications: (a) an instructional certificate in their area of study and (b) a teacher of students with disabilities certificate. Candidates participate in extensive and diverse clinical experiences from sophomore to senior year.
